The History of Our Founding
In November of 2008, eight people gathered in the home of Karen Giles to discern if the Lord desired to plant an Anglican church in the Las Vegas Valley that was traditional, rooted in the Sacraments and in Scripture. Fr. Howard and Deacon Erin Giles were called to Henderson by the Holy Spirit, leaving the Central Valley of California and St. Mary the Virgin, Manteca, where they had been blessed to serve.
Bishop John-David Schofield gave his blessing in writing:
"“Fr. Howard Giles and his wife Deacon Erin Giles have my full permission and blessing to explore the establishment of a new church. Through their ministry in your midst, I believe that Jesus Christ will be lifted up, the solid teaching of the Bible will be proclaimed, and that many will come not only to receive Jesus as Savior and be filled with the Holy Spirit as well...What is essential now is to lay a firm foundation on the Scriptures, a desire to honor and lift up Jesus as the only way to the Father, and a desire to see many others come to know the freedom of life that He alone can give...”
In the Spring of 2009, Lent was kept by this small group on Wednesday Evenings with Soup Suppers and Evening Prayer. Redo and Lydia Concepcion answered an add to provide music on the Last Sunday of Lent in 2009. Our fellowship has been continually blessed by their ministry in music and we gained strength in numbers at our first public Liturgies on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday of 2009 at the Hampton Inn on the corner of Marks and Warm Springs in Henderson.
The 18 people that gathered at our first Sunday Liturgy has almost doubled to over 30 worshiping every Sunday. While not breaking any records for Sunday attendance or numerical growth, we have been able to welcome each individual into our church family, growing in faith and fellowship. We look back with thankfulness over the past two years and look forward with great anticipation over what the Lord is doing in our midst!
